Lewis faced with off-field trouble

Valdosta— A week following his second straight 300-yard passing and 100-yard rushing performance, Valdosta State University quarterback Kellen Lewis is now facing off the field troubles as he (Lewis) was arrested on Tuesday afternoon according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

Lewis was arrested by the City of Valdosta Police Department on Tuesday afternoon and was charged with 1 count of Battery. Lewis was later released on bail however the charges are still pending according to a source at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

The VSU Athletic Office said in an official statement that all factors are being evaluated and Kellen Lewis is still part of the football program and the athletic department.

Lewis re-joined the team on Thursday as they continue to prepare for the Harding Bison who they take on Saturday in Searcy Ark in a Gulf South Conference Game.

Lewis was named Conference Player of the Week for his performance against Henderson State last Saturday when he threw for 314 yards on 22 completions and ran for 112 yards on 18 attempts and scored a total of four touchdowns in the Blazers 33-20 win over the Reddies.

Lewis joined the Blazer football team in the offseason when he transferred from Indiana University where he spent his first three years of eligibility. While at Indiana Lewis set 16 school records for the Hoosiers.
