World renowned violinist performs on campus

The Valdosta Symphony Orchestra warmly welcomes the widely-successful violinist, Amy Schwartz Moretti, to campus on Feb. 12.

She will be performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto.

“The Beethoven is widely regarded as one the greatest works for violin, and I believe that its considerable musical and technical challenges provide Ms. Moretti with the perfect showcase for her world-class artistry,” Director of Orchestra Studies, Howard Hsu, said.

Moretti is just as pleased to be performing the piece with the VSO.

“It’s a piece that I grew up listening to and finally had the opportunity to learn while I was in college,” she said. “It’s the type of piece that evolves with you over time. The more life experience you have, the more emotion you find in Beethoven’s music.”

When preparing for a performance, Moretti does much more than just practice—she strives to understand the journey the composer took in writing it.

“The violin is not always the primary voice. You must know when you are accompanying the orchestra and when you need to sing out the melody,” she said.
