Students stray away from beach during spring break

VSU students are not just flocking to the same old destinations this year for spring break, but to new and exotic places most would not think about.

Normally, students head to one of Florida’s many beaches or party stops for fun in the sun, yet that is not always the case.

“I’m going back home to Atlanta to spend time with my family and friends there for half of my break and then one of my old college friends from Dayton, Ohio will be coming down to visit me,” Ebony Roberson, sophomore theatre major who transferred from Wright State University, said.“I cannot wait for this week to end!”

Others are digging deep to create an experience that will never be forgotten.

“I plan to take a trip to Europe and spend a whole week in Ireland visiting the land of my ancestors,” Zachery Denn, junior political science major, said. “It’s going to be amazing.”

Some students are staying in Georgia and enjoying the beaches and sun here, instead of traveling long distances on crowded highways and burning precious gas.

“I’m going home to Savannah, Georgia,” Ashley Chisholm, junior chemistry major who decided to save money this spring break, said. “Why pay to go to Florida when I can go home to the beach for free?”

Gas in the state of Georgia is currently $3.47 per gallon which is eight cents less than Florida at $3.55, according to floridastategasprices.com.

Most students will visit one place and stay there for their spring break, but one student will be traveling around in order to let his family meet someone very special.

“I am going to back home to Newnan Ga., for a few days, and then to Ft. Gaines, Jacksonville, Fla. to let my family meet my new girlfriend,” Mandela Littleton, junior Spanish major, said.

Spring break is not just a time to head to the same old destinations, but to actually get out and experience something new.
