VSU faculty member dead

Dr. Anthelyn Jean Temple, a Registered Nurse, and the Associate Dean of the College of Nursing died April 11 at her residence in Valdosta. Dr. Temple is a native of Macon, Ga.

She attended The University of Georgia in Athens, and Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga. where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and received her Doctorate of Science in nursing degree.

Dr. Temple has worked for The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon State College, Morris Brown College, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Alcorn State University, University of South Alabama, and Valdosta State University.

. Dr. Jean Temple has also successfully developed the Project Health Link HRSA Grant and vigorously engages in community service to improve the health care of vulnerable populations in Georgia;  The Valdosta service for Dr. Temple was on April 16, at St. Paul AME Church, 419 South Ashley St. Family, friends and co-workers attended the service and also contributed to “The Dr. Jean Temple Scholarship Fund”.

Dr. Temple is survived by her husband, Richard E. Temple, Jr.; son, Richard (Ben) Temple; her mother, Louise Smith; three sisters, Dr. Wanda Smith West (W. Roy), Mrs. Marie Smith McKenzie (Warren Jr.),  Mrs. Paula Smith Wright;  two brothers, Rev. Bertram C. Smith (Wendolyn), and Mr. Otis H. Smith;  father-in-law, Rev. Dr. Richard E. Temple, Sr. (Ann); sisters-in-law, Mrs. Reenai Temple Mason, Mrs. Robin Temple Turner (Mike), Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces, Glory Mason, Auriel Wright, Nicole Smith, Monique Smith, Danielle Smith, Ayona Walker (Cedric), Breanna Smith and Tresor Warren; nephews Simon McKenzie and Jase Smith;  aunts, Vera Knighton, Kathryn Tanks , Lucille Wilson, and Lillie Trousdell.

Donations to the “Dr. Jean Temple Scholarship Fund” can be mailed to Valdosta State University College of Nursing; 1500 Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31601.
