Dr. Levy holds open sessions

VSU President, Dr. Louis H. Levy, held the first open session of his tenure this past Tuesday in which students were able to speak to him about their concerns.

This session was held in his office located in room 117 in West Hall. Between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., students were allowed to privately speak face to face with Dr. Levy for a period 15 minutes each.

Students could speak on any topic or concern they may have had whether it was their personal college experience or the campus community as a whole.

A separate session for staff and faculty was held on Monday. This is the first time in recent years a president has held such a session.

“These types of sessions were usually held when the campus was much smaller.” Dr. Levy said.

“This is a great opportunity for faculty, students, and staff to communicate directly with me about any matters they may have.”

Dr. Levy also mentioned that this session was a great way of reaching out to the campus community. By speaking with staff, students, and faculty, he becomes further aware of what is happening on campus as well as the individual lives of its residents.

While not many, a majority of the students who came to the session had concerns about the college community as a whole.

Some wanted to create organizations on campus for students to become involved in, while others wanted to make beneficial changes to the organizations they were already a part of.

“Depending on how well this goes, there could possibly be one or two sessions per semester.” said Dr. Levy.

These sessions are a great chance for students and any other VSU residents to get to know Dr. Levy personally.

This first hand communication also allows for everyone to feel even more acquainted with the campus as a whole. Hopefully, these sessions will continue to produce positive results which will in turn, better VSU campus life and the college experience in general.
