Local 96.7 DJ Juan Gatti dead

A masked gunman fatally wounded Valdosta radio DJ Stephon “Juan Gatti” Edgerton, 40, late Friday night.

The Valdosta Daily Times reported that after leaving his shift, on Friday, a man approached and shot him twice in the body and once in the head.

Edgerton called 911 at 11:53 p.m. to describe the gunman as a white male wearing a mask and was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center, dying at 12:53 a.m. The sheriff’s department K9 dogs were working to track the gunman well past midnight Saturday morning, according to the VDT.

Some students were shocked by the news.

“I heard about it on the Atlanta Radio and I was mainly surprised that he was able to give a description of his murderer,” Saxon Seigler, senior mass media major, said.

Edgerton’s body was sent to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab on Monday, Deputy Coroner Walter Wacter, the VDT reported.

No one at the Sherrif’s department was available for comment at press time.
