Exhibit ‘drawing new paths’ for graduating seniors

The senior exhibition, held every semester for Fine Art seniors, will be held from 1-3 p.m. from Nov. 11 to Dec. 3.

There will be a reception for the opening of the exhibit on Nov. 11 from 1-3 p.m. which will include refreshments and performances by VSU’s student Jazz Combo. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

“Drawing A New Path” is the theme for this semester’s exhibition, defining the many paths this semester’s seniors will take after graduation.

“The title came out of the realization that although all of the seniors will be going into different career paths and have various mediums they prefer to work in, the one foundation that all of them possess is drawing, “Rossana Grasser, publicity chair of the exhibition, said.

Grasser explained that the exhibition name also stemmed from the realization that many of the senior artists were drawing as children–inspiring them to become artists.

“For most artists their journey to realizing they were artists began as children with drawing,” she said.

The exhibition will showcase work from 18 graduating students in a variety of mediums including: painting, jewelry, print, ceramics, sculpture, photography and mixed media.

The seniors have worked through a variety of mediums, producing numerous works from their time at the College of Fine Arts with the help of their professors.

“They have been so supportive and have really taught us so much beyond art,” Candice Madrid, a senior and installation chair of “Drawing a New Path”, said.

“I would really like to thank the entire faculty,” Jacob Ruppel, a senior and catalog/ signage chair of “Drawing A New Path,” said. “They have been a tremendous help in molding me into the artist that I am today and have prepared me completely for a future in art. I would like to thank especially Mr. Willard Park, my jewelry teacher from whom I have received great training and passion for jewelry, and Mr. Blake Pearce, my print making teacher from whom I have also received lots of support and training.”

Fine Arts fall 2012 seniors who will be presenting their work include Gina Alexander                                                 Jessica Lynn Logan, Maggie Bean ,Courtney Lopez ,Katie Bracewell, Candice Madrid ,Ashley Curtis ,Mary Glynn Miley, Davionne Eversley, Maurice Rosemond, Kaleb Foshee ,Jacob Ruppel, Casey Fowler, Rhashad Turner, Rosanna Grasser ,Rachel West , Freddie Hudson Jr. and Stephen Wright.

Although many of the seniors are ready to move forward after graduation, they look to the senior exhibition as the final step before heading out into the real world.

“I feel the senior exhibition is a great way to end our college education– we have all started together in drawing 1 or 2D class so I feel it is such an honor to view my peers work that they are most proud of and to just see how much we have all grown as artists,” Madrid said.
