West Florida crowned champs again / VSU ousted in first round

West Florida repeated as Gulf South Conference champs on Sunday afternoon with a commanding 4-0 victory over No. 2 seeded Christian Brothers.

UWF was led by senior forward Shelby Bush. Bush finished the tournament with two goals and two assists while averaging 60 minutes per game.

Bush, along with teammates April Syme, Kelley Andres and Shashana Campbell, were named to the GSC All-Tournament team.

The No. 1 seeded Argonauts outscored opponents 8-2 in their two games during the tournament and also beat West Alabama. UWF outshot both opponents 47-16.

For the Argos, it is their 30th game without a loss and also their 11th consecutive victory.

CBU got to the title game by defeating No. 6 seed Alabama-Huntsville 3-1 on Friday evening. The Lady Bucs outshot the Chargers 15-6.

 CBU’s Alex Bickenbach led the way with two goals and an assist in the game including the game winning goal in the 56th minute of the match.

No. 3 seeded VSU were ousted in the first round for the second straight year falling to UAH 2-1 on the opening night of the tournament.

VSU sophomore midfielder Margaret Stauffer opened up the scoring with a quick goal in the 4th minute of the match.

The Chargers answered with an unassisted goal in the 37th minute and the game winner in the 52nd minute.

VSU beat UAH 3-0 in September.

UWA beat in-state foe North Alabama in the first match of the tournament on Thursday afternoon.

UWA was able to pull away in the second half scoring both of their goals to win 2-0.

The NCAA Selection Show is on Monday at 7:30 pm to determine who is in and out of the NCAA tournament which begins on Nov. 15.
