Turner Center for the Arts kicks off first SCORE concert with Classical Pianist

The Annette Howell Turner Center kicks off the first night of their SCORE music appreciation concert series with pianist, Julian Gargiulo. 

Gargiulo is a classical pianist, composer and humorist who performs around the world, from prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall to Singapore’s Symphony stage. 

Born in Italy, Gargiulo studied at the Verona State Conservatory, the Mugi Academy in Rome, the Moscow State Conservatory, received his bachelor’s degree at Rowan University, his master’s at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and his doctorates degree at the University of Maryland. 

Gargiulo started the Water Island Music Festival, bringing together classical and jazz musicians for three days of music in the Virgin Islands. 

He also founded the 16000 children non-profit organization dedicated to raising awarness for the children who die of hunger every day. With his performances, Gargiulo raises funds for numerous charities around the world. 

Gargiulo’s music has been noticed across many media platforms, as he has been featured on radio and tv stations in Europe and Asia. His music has also appeared in movies and documentaries, most recently in Keira Knightly’s new film trailer, “The Aftermath.” 

The SCORE program is made possible through a National Endowment for the Arts grant and a matching scholarship from Dan and Carolyn Colemen from Valdosta. 

The concerts take place at The Annette Howell Turner Center art gallery where many events take place within the community.  

The next artists to perform will be: Bach to the Future, electric ensemble, on Nov. 19, Angelica Hairston, harp, on Feb.11, 2025 and Camerata South, string quartet, March.5, 2025.
