Grammy winning singer and songwriter the Weeknd released his long awaited sixth studio album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” On Jan. 31.
Many fans have been anticipating the album due to the Weeknd’s established skill as a performer, as well as his upcoming movie of the same name.
With all of the hype surrounding its release, I had high expectations for the album.
After listening to the album for the first time, I believe I can safely say that it lived up to the hype.
Most of the songs are very tuned-down and somewhat relaxing. The instrumentals for all of the tracks stay very consistent and compliment The Weeknd’s voice well.
The lyrical composition of most of the songs were well put together and incredibly meaningful,
especially in songs like “Take Me Back to LA” and the title track “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”
It was great to hear the Weeknd fully accentuate his unique vocals in a more toned-down setting.
I only had a few critiques for the album. Although I loved how relaxed the tempo and rhythm of most of the songs were, I found that a lot of the songs sounded the same.
Sometimes it was hard to distinguish songs from one another because of how they flowed into each other.
There were also some songs that felt like they were building up to something that never actually came.
Here are my rankings for each individual song out of a score of 10:
Wake Me Up (feat. Justice)- 9/10
Cry for me- 8.5/10
I Can’t ******* Sing- Interlude
São Paulo (feat. Anitta)- 8/10
Until We’re Skin and Bones- Interlude
Baptized in Fear- 7/10
