VSU’s faculty had its first Faculty Senate meeting of the fall semester Thursday, Aug. 20, which included an appearance by Dr. Don Green, the new president of the university who took over the position this month. 

Green had a lot to say about his plans for the semester. 

After the introduction portion of the meeting, Green was given an opportunity to address the Senate. He responded by standing up and walking to the middle of the room, talking about his aspirations and goals for VSU.  

 He started off by saying there will be times when he is going to frustrate the faculty. 

“That’s just part of being on the faculty senate team,” he said. 

 Dr. Green said VSU has several areas to improve on around the university. 

“We have an infinite amount of resources, we have infinite opportunities, and we have quite often unbelievable expectations. For the Board of Regents, from state government, from the federal government, and were trying to thread the needle on a regular basis. And sometimes that leads to very difficult decisions that have to take place,” he added. 

He then gave everyone who came to the Faculty Senate meeting his phone number and told him to come to his office anytime. 

Throughout the meeting, the new president seemed very good at making several promises and hearing faculty’s concerns and opinions on specific issues.  

The Faculty Senate meets the third Thursday of each month during the semester to discuss issues important to VSU faculty members and members of the VSU community.
