Valdosta State University’s Homecoming celebrations are set to bring a royal twist to campus this year with the theme “Royal Affair.” The theme will be reflected throughout the week’s events, with activities centered around royalty and different elements of a royal court.

Candice Pace, a graduate assistant in Student Life, said the theme was chosen to connect the different events planned for Homecoming.

“Royal Affair plays off of anything concerning royalty,” Pace said. “There will be a lot of events such as Country Club and Jesters and Jokers, so Royal Affair plays off of that.”

The theme will be incorporated into several of the week’s major events, giving students different ways to participate in the Homecoming celebration.

Among the upcoming events is the Lip Sync Competition, “Battle of the Thrones,” where students will compete through performances. The NPHC Showcase will also be part of the Homecoming festivities, highlighting performances from VSU’s National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations.

Another event students can look forward to is Casino Night, which will feature a masquerade theme and continue the elegant atmosphere of the “Royal Affair” theme.

While several events have already been announced, one major part of Homecoming remains a secret.

The musician scheduled to perform during Homecoming has not yet been revealed. According to Pace, the artist will be announced on Oct. 5 at 5 p.m.

Until then, students can look forward to the various Homecoming events leading up to the reveal and the rest of the week’s festivities.
