Although VSU football could not claim a victory this week, they were able to take home most of the awards from the Gulf South Conference, with women’s soccer taking home an award of their own as well.
Sophomore Running Back Shawn Paschall was awarded GSC Offensive Player of the Week. Junior outside linebacker Julius Pascal was named Defensive Player of the Week and Jabari McMillan took home Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row. Sophomore defender Kyndal Smith was also named GSC Defender of the Week for women’s soccer.
With only 11 carries, Shawn Paschall rushed for his career high.
He rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns against UNC Pembroke. He had an average of 14.1 yards per carry in the 44-41 loss to the Braves. One of those rushes went for 45 yards to get VSU within three points with 6:52 left on the clock in the fourth quarter.
Julius Pascal had his best moment when he turned a defensive play into points.

Not only did he give the Blazerstheir best play of the night, but he also recorded nine total tackles, one tackle for loss, a half a sack, one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.
Once again Jabari McMillan showed why he will be a force in the Blazers’ secondary for years to come.
McMillan picked up Freshman of the week after having two interceptions against Fayetteville State. Against UNC Pembroke, he racked up a career high eight tackles, seven of which were solo tackles and a tackle for loss.
In soccer, Kyndal Smith helped lead her defense to allow only eight shots on goal during there two games. Not only did she excel on defense, but she also helped score the winning goal against Mississippi Christian. After scoring from a corner kick, The Blazers went on to beat Mississippi Christian 4-0. Next, she finished the night playing all 90 minutes as the Blazers defeated West Alabama, 1-0.
Whether it be a career high rushing game, a 94-yard touchdown or two more games without a goal allowed. Together, they helped VSU have one of its most decorated weeks of the fall season.
