The Drop shouldn’t be over-priced for college students

Most students here at VSU love the food options, from places like Moes and Chik-fil-A to Starbucks and The Drop. But when it comes to the prices, The Drop in particular, grabbing a bite can be astronomical.

If you factor in a meal, a side of fries and a drink, it can go up to over 20 dollars even if you’re just ordering a sandwich. Which is very popular at The Drop.

Although the price is a big issue with The Drop, another is having to wait sometimes up to 40 minutes just to get your food.

The workers sometimes buzz your number before the food is ready, and say they buzz it by accident or ask what substitute cheese or bread you want.

This can add another 10 minutes to waiting for your order.

Another thing that is extremely expensive at The Drop is the Blazer Market. Items there, like a bag of chips, can cost up to 12 dollars. You can probably spend about 20 dollars on ice cream alone, not to mention the toiletries and bathroom supplies which are even more expensive.

The Blazer Market prices probably cost double than the items you would buy at Walmart or Sams Club. And at Sam’s at least you have more items for the same amount of money.

These astronomical prices are pretty surprising, especially for students because let’s face it, as a whole we are all broke college students.

These various places are a good substitute for eating the same thing at Palms every single day. But why does The Drop overcharge students just for having something other than the college version of cafeteria food?.

Not to mention if you use dining dollars, you don’t get the same food options as when you pay your own money. Students either have to spend more money to update their dining plan, or keep using their own money to get overpriced chicken nuggets or whatever else they choose.

You would think by how many students come into The Drop, they wouldn’t have to overcharge the students so they can eat.

Who knows, maybe someday VSU students won’t have to spend a small fortune on dinner; for now, if we want to eat at The Drop, that is a price we have to pay.
