Origin: There is an Urban Dictionary entry on his phrase as far back as 2005. It’s said to have gained popularity from a throwaway line from the cult-hit Superbad film.

Millennial Terminology (2)Catfishing – When someone tricks another by pretending to be someone else on an online, mainly on dating sites.

Example:
Girl 1: I’m talking to this hot guy on Tinder. He like 20 and is an exec at Nike. Can you believe that?!
Girl 2: No. You’re getting’ catfished, dawg.

Origin: It’s a story that most know, but the term was coined from a documentary style film of the same name.  The main character, Nev, after finding out that the woman who he was seeing online, was not who she said she was. She had a husband for one. It was in the final minutes of the film where the husband told Nev a story about the terms.

Millennial Terminology (3)

Mom/Dad – Not in the literal sense. But online folks nowadays are creepily calling their favorite celebrities this. Lady Gaga just walked out in a ……. Oh my gawd, my mom is everything.
Origin: Who the hell knows? Why did this become a thing? I have no idea.
