VSU athletics was highlighted by the Gulf South Conference on Wednesday as volleyball player Eimy Negron Domenech and punter Lucas Edenfield were named to the GSC’s weekly watch lists.
Negron Domenech, a senior defensive specialist/libero, was named GSC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after a standout performance at the Flagler Invitational. In four matches, Negron Domenech recorded 121 digs and averaged 8.07 digs per set as the Blazers went 2-2 at the tournament. She recorded a season-high 35 digs against Maryville (Mo.) in four sets.
Negron Domenech backed it up with another 34 digs against Flagler volleyball the following day. Negron Domenech finished the week with 30 assists. This award comes early in the season for Negron Domenech and gives the Blazers one of the first individual conference awards of the 2026 season.
Lucas Edenfield, a sophomore punter for VSU’s football team, was named Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 0. Edenfield punted five times for 224 yards and an average of 44.8 yards against Emory & Henry during Valdosta State’s season-opener on Aug. 29.
Two of Edenfield’s punts went for over 50 yards, including a game-long 51-yard punt, and he pinned Emory & Henry inside the 20-yard line once.
The strong performance from Edenfield helped the Blazers control the field position against Emory & Henry, contributing to a dominant season-opening win to start the year.
