Every season there are at least a couple of players who are considered the “old guys” of the team. These players are sometimes fifth year seniors or just older seniors.
These experienced players normally have some of the most passion on the field.
This season’s “old guys” are Schneider Cineus and Doug Cain—both of whom served in the United States military before enrolling at Valdosta State.
“I just embrace the wisdom and pass it on to the younger guys,” Cineus said. The 27-year old Miami, Fla. native spends his VSU playing career as a defensive end. Off the field, Cineus is an Engineer Technology major. Cineus was a part of the 2007 national championship team and wants to bring another championship back home during his senior season.
“We must shake the monkey off our backs,” Cineus said. Both Cain and Cineus did time in the Navy prior to this season.
For the 28-year old Thomasville native, Doug Cain, he is looking to gain a national championship in his first season with the Blazers.
“We have a big future ahead of us,” the Physical Education major Cain said. The only people who can beat us are ourselves.”
Although Cain and Cineus are older than the normal college, the two are treated like everyone else on the team.
“They treat us like we’re 19,”Cineus said.
Both Cineus and Cain saw ample playing time in the Blazers week one win over Wingate. Cineus recorded five tackles while Cain recorded a solo tackle. Both players are expected to play this weekend when the Blazers visit Newberry College.
