The first regional basketball rankings of the season are out. The Blazers are ranked seventh.
Tampa University is ranked first with a 12-1 division II record.
Alabama-Huntsville is ranked second with a 17-2 division II record, which includes a double-overtime victory over the Blazers earlier this month.
Two more Gulf South Conference schools made the rankings ahead of VSU, as Harding is ranked third and Christian Brothers is sixth.
Two more Sunshine Conference schools made the top eight, with Rollins at four and Florida Southern at five.
Arkansas Tech rounds out the top eight.
The top eight will change throughout the next month, as the final rankings are not released until the conclusion of conference tournaments.
The winner of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will earn an automatic bid into the top eight. The current conference leader, Benedict, is currently ranked ninth.
VSU will have several chances to improve their regional rankings, as they will play at North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville early next month.
VSU host West Florida on Thursday night and travel to Carrollton, Ga. on Saturday to take on in-state rival West Georgia.
The Lady Blazers failed to make the top 10 rankings.
