Willner earns GSC Player of the Week

 VSU senior outfielder John Willner has been named the Gulf South Conference East Division Baseball Player of the Week, according to an announcement made by the league office Tuesday morning.

 Willner led VSU to a 3-0 mark last week as he batted .536 and drove in nine runs on the week.   He scored five runs and counted three doubles and two home runs among his seven hits on the week.

 The Regina, Saskatchewan opened the week by going 4-for-5 with a career-high six RBI in a 15-6 victory at North Georgia on Wednesday. He belted home runs in each of his first two at-bats in the game, upping his season total to three.

 Willner also led VSU to a weekend sweep at Lambuth as he opened the week by going 2-for-4 with three RBI in the series opener. Both of his hits in the game were doubles as he led the Blazers to an 8-3 victory.

 Willner closed out the week by going 1-for-4 in a 9-5 Valdosta State win.

 Willner now leads VSU with a .358 batting average on the season and has scored 24 runs while driving in 18 on the season.
