Theatre and dance to host annual fundraiser

The dance and theatre department will be hosting their 13th annual Cabaret fundraiser on Sunday in the Student Union Ballroom.

The event will include a buffet dinner of beef tenderloin or shrimp and grits as well as cabaret performances from VSU Theatre and Dance students.

“It’s an opportunity to perform and provides a student scholarship,” Jacque Wheeler, head of the theatre and dance department said.

This year’s theme is Songs from the Silver Screen. This will include musical numbers from films and plays such as Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Meet Me in Saint Louie and Phantom of the Opera.

They will all be performed by VSU Students and the proceeds will go to the Golden Circle Scholarship and Support Fund.

In the spring, scholarships are usually given in $1,000 increments to outstanding VSU dance and theatre majors who are chosen through auditions and portfolios.

“It’s always great to support an arts program since they might not get the same funding as other departments,” said Kristen Carlson, sophomore sociology major.

The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m., and the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets cost $45 for non-season members and $40 for season members.
