Whether it is during or after college, a job interview is the one thing that almost every student must go through. Career Services will be helping students to improve their interview skills at its next Successful Interviewing seminar on Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. in Powell Hall West.
“This seminar is important because it is not always the most qualified person that gets the job but the person that sells (himself or herself) the best,” Crystal Goode, career counselor, said.
Successful Interviewing is designed to help students prepare for job interviews, internships and even entry into graduate school.
The seminar is mostly lecture and discussion-based. Topics include preparing for an interview, professional attire and how to follow up on an interview. The seminar will also practice different scenarios such as “stress questions,” that may be asked during an interview.
The last seminar will be held on Nov. 7.
Students are also encouraged to schedule a one-on-one mock interview in the Career Services office, where they can also sign up for a program called Interview Stream. The program is a free online video practice program that allows users to practice answering a variety of interview questions and have their responses critiqued.
“The advice I would give to current students is to utilize the services that are offered by VSU’s Career Services,” Nyeasha Carter, business education major, said.
