Faculty Senate Preview

The 2015 faculty senate could be making some drastic changes to the VSU community.

The first 2015 faculty senate meeting will take place today at 3:30 p.m. in the University Center’s Magnolia Room, and the members of the senate hope to improve campus life this semester.

New business that will be brought up at the meeting are things such as the Student Government Association’s proposal of the academic forgiveness policy, VSU’s progress in regards to safety and security on campus, and improving the senate website.

The question of academic forgiveness, which would allow students to retake courses in hopes of replacing a poor grade with a higher one, got a lot of attention from students last semester.

“I am ready for this policy to be pushed through,” Krystin Souter, senior biology major, said. “I think it is a great idea, and I do not see why it wouldn’t be approved as long as it is helping us as students.”

Another topic to be discussed at the meeting is academic scheduling.

“The Academic Scheduling and Procedures Committee is currently analyzing how many stu-dents, faculty and staff are negatively impacted by disaligned spring breaks, but it is probably too early for a report,” Dr. Michael Noll, president of the faculty senate, said.

The faculty senate holds a meeting each month to keep up with current happenings at VSU, and starting in 2015 faculty meetings will be parliamentarian elections.

Voting members of the faculty senate consist of already-elected senators. These senators will vote on new elected senators for the next three years.

At the end of the meeting, which is open to students, an open discussion will be held to tie up all unfinished business.
