NBC Universal signs deal with Snapchat to produce original content and episodes within the app. Yes, that means your favorite app, famous for those amazing filters just got much better.
These two companies are no strangers to one another. NBC already has an existing deal with Snapchat where they showcase the 2016 Olympics in their app. The fact that the two companies have a short history together just makes the deal more likely to succeed. The best thing about this deal is that it’s a great way to target younger audiences. Young people tend to be on their phones majority of the time, and Snapchat is one of the most used and most popular apps out right now. Let’s just say that they eat, breath, and sleep Snapchat, which makes it a huge part of their daily routine. So, what better way for NBC Universal to boost their ratings, than to broadcast their shows on the most popular app?
This is great deal for both parties in the equation, because it will boost both of their views. There will be many shows debuted on the app. The first one to kick things off will be the hit show “The Voice”, along with an original show from E! called “The Rundown” that will air exclusively on Snapchat, and is said to be making its debut on September 8. Other shows such as, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, and “Saturday Night Live” will soon follow, but as of right now there are no set dates.
The great thing about “The Voice on Snapchat” is that Snapchat users can send in singing submissions, and watch their work be critiqued and judged on the app. Talk about scary. It’s a really cool concept especially if you were blessed with the talent to sing. No one truly knows if this will be a huge success or not, but NBC really took a leap with this one. Will audiences click on it and tune in because it’s on Snapchat, or will they be unamused and uninterested, and simply leave it sitting at the top unopened?
It’s definitely a huge gamble, but a great concept. NBC Universal could not have picked a better app to partner with than Snapchat. I look forward to seeing it all pan out. I have no doubt in my mind that this will be a huge success. Great thinking NBC Universal and Snapchat you really won me over with this one!
