The Student Success Center has always offered tutoring to VSU students, but starting this semester, they’re expanding. The center will now offer tutoring to local elementary, middle and high school students.
“We are looking forward to expanding our tutoring reach to the larger Valdosta community,” Terrance Sullivan, assistant director of the Student Success Center, said.
According to Sullivan, the Success Center has received calls for years about tutoring for their younger students.
It wasn’t until Sullivan attended a tutoring convention that he decided to partner with a company called Tutor Matching Service.
“Tutor Matching Service is excited to partner with the Student Success Center to help connect high-quality, affordable private tutoring options with individuals in the wider communities around VSU and beyond,” Katie Funk, Tutor Matching Service’s assistant director, said.
Because of the partnership, the Success Center has a chance to give tutoring to the Valdosta community for $25 an hour. $15 will go to the tutor and $10 will go to the Success Center for training the tutors.
“We wanted the community to be aware that there was good, affordable tutoring in Valdosta,” Sullivan said.
The Student Success Center is currently looking for tutors in all subjects but mainly for math, writing, Spanish, biology and chemistry.
“Our new community tutoring initiative provides a way for us to impact even more students in our community and get our expert tutors even more experience,” Sullivan said.
Students can sign up for a tutor by using their VSU account, or they can sign up in person at the Student Success Center.
