The Blazers face off with the newberry wolves at away game

The Blazers look to keep their momentum as they take the show on the road to face the Newberry College Wolves.

The Blazers are coming off a win with a dominating display against the Albany State Rams 42-10. Senior quarterback Sammy Edwards was in midseason form in the win as he only had seven incompletions, 325 yards and five total touchdowns that resulted in Edwards being named the Gulf South Conference player of the week.

As for the defense, they stopped the Rams from gaining any momentum and stifled the defense all night. Graduate student Larry Elder was named GSC Defensive Player of the week as he had five solo tackles, including one tackle that helped with their victory.

As for Newberry, they look to start their season on the right path. They finished with a dismal 4-7 record last year and their offense was near the bottom in most major offensive metrics, such as yards and points per game.

Newberry riled on the running game last year, so they look for production out of junior running back Dwayne Wright and Redshirt Trakell Murray. They both were a focal point of the offensive, as they attributed to the Wolves rushing for over 2,000 yards last year as a team.

This is only the third-ever meeting between the two schools. Their last and only meeting in Newberry, South Carolina, was in 2010, when the Blazers won convincingly 45-17.

The Blazers look to keep up their winning ways on the road, as they were undefeated away from Bazemore- Hyder Stadium last year. The Blazers lead the brief all-time matchup 2-0, as they last met with the Wolves in 2011.
