VSU Blazers return home to face the Mississippi College Choctaws

For the first time since Sept.14, the Blazers will play a home game at Bazemore Hyder Stadium against their Gulf South Conference rival, the Mississippi College Choctaws.

The Blazers come into this matchup a perfect 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play after escaping from the jaws of defeat against the North Greenville Trail Blazers in last week’s game.

Senior quarterback Sammy Edwards leads the high-powered Blazers offense, which ranks fifth in the nation in scoring.

Edwards has had another stellar season, leading the GSC in passing at 1.594 yards, 14 touchdowns and zero interceptions as they look to go to 7-0 for the first time since 2021, which was the last time that VSU reached a National Championship game and will look to keep the perfect season going.

Meanwhile, their opponent, the Choctaws, has had a challenging season as they enter this matchup 0-6. They have been unable to muster up any momentum offensively as they have been shut out in the past two games against the West Florida Argonauts and the West Alabama Tigers.

Going into this game, the offense on the season is averaging seven points per game, while the defense has allowed 28.9 a game. In their shining moment of the year, they are led by the seventh leading rushing in the GSC in senior running back Marcus Williams, who has 282 yards on the season and two touchdowns.

The Blazers lead this all-time meeting with the Choctaws 8-1. VSU’s only loss was in 2022 when the Choctaws defeated the Blazers 49-40 at Bazemore Hyder Stadium.

After missing their previously scheduled home game against the West Alabama Tigers on Sept. 28, the Blazers will play their first home game since Sept.14. The Blazer Nation will welcome them home.
