The heat is on in the showers of Georgia Hall; however, residents are still dubious after a full semester of cold water.
Housing and Residence Life had been struggling to get hot water to Georgia the entirety of the last semester, even after professional plumbers had been brought in. But recently, they have had more success.
Just before Thanksgiving break, Housing and Residence Life deployed its second project performed by professional plumbers, and they expect this one to be more successful than the last.
Dr. Jeffery Hooks, the director of Housing and Residence Life, expressed optimism concerning the new project.
“We believe the completion of the latest project should deliver consistent hot water to residents,” said Hooks.
Students, on the other hand, were not as hopeful.
Just before winter break, an informal poll of 23 Georgia Hall residents showed that the majority lacked confidence in their ability to take a hot shower. Eight were unconfident, while nine more were uncertain, leaving just six out of 23 residents confident in having hot water.
The project to restore the hot water was completed before the break and since then, five of the 23 residents have reported having consistent hot water, while 15 said theirs was off and on. Three more were still receiving cold water. It is important to note that many students with off and on water reported that they were more likely to be without heat during hours of intensive use, when most people were showering.
Even with the recent project done by housing and residence, which has improved the state of hot water in Georgia Hall, many students still have not seen the effects of the work.
If any students live in Georgia Hall and are without hot water, housing and residence has a suggestion:
“We encourage any residents who continue to experience inconsistent hot water to submit maintenance tickets promptly. This will allow our maintenance team to respond quickly and take any necessary corrective actions,” said Hooks.
