Welcome Graham Craig

VSU welcomed a new era for its football program on Thursday, Jan. 23 as Graham Craig was officially introduced as the 12th head coach of the Blazer football team. The press conference, held in the Magnolia Room of the University Center, was filled with excitement and anticipation for the future of VSU football.

Craig, who served as the team’s offensive coordinator in the 2024 season, is no stranger to Titletown. As a former Blazer quarterback himself, Craig helped lead VSU to its third national title in 2012. His deep connection to the program and strong ties to former players were evident as he addressed the media and other Blazer fans.

“I want to thank the former athletes that I coached, the calls and text messages this past week have been one of the coolest parts of this so far. Just realizing how many people were following us and the people who watched us this past year was cool,” said Craig.

Athletic Director Troy Katen praised Craig’s character and vision for the program.

We want to continue our success, moving forward it’s important we have the right coach, high character, a man of integrity, but not only invest in our student-athletes, but invest in this program, the community, Valdosta State, and the region of South Georgia,” Katen said.

Craig’s offensive skill was on full display during the 2024 season, with the Blazers finishing 11th nationally in total offense and 8th in scoring offense. Under his guidance, quarterback Sammy Edwards became a two-time Harlon Hill finalist, showcasing Craig’s ability to develop talent.

“I understand the position that I’m in and I’m ready for the challenge. We will be great in situational football. We will put our players in those situations in practice, so when they get into the game it’s a situation they can look back to and know it’s not the first time they have been in that situation,” said Criag.

Craig also made note of efficiently evolving not only the athlete’s athletic ability but also their character.

“As a program, there will be a major focus on development. We want to develop high-character student-athletes that are prepared for life when they leave here. We only develop players in all aspects of their lives,” said Craig.

Craig’s new role as VSU’s head coach will be defined by his ability to translate past success into future victories and championships.
