Crime Blotter: Stolen car causes brief chase

STOLEN CAR

MARY STREET: On Jan. 24, VSUPD responded to a report of a stolen vehicle that was flagged by a license plate reader near campus at 10.14 a.m. The vehicle was stolen out of Cook County, and was first found near the Athletic Field House. The driver started to take measures to evade the officer, and backup was called, and VPD engaged a brief chase before the vehicle stopped in a yard at the intersection of West Street and Floyd Street. Two people were arrested at the scene, neither of which were VSU students. No injuries occurred during the chase. They were transferred to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning and the investigation continues.

RECKLESS DRIVING

OAK STREET PARKING DECK: VSUPD responded to reports of three cars doing donuts and sliding in the snow during the snowstorm on Jan. 22 at 12:30 a.m. This was reported in an area where pedestrians were playing in the snow, and safety concerns had been raised. Upon arrival, two of the three cars had fled, but the third vehicle was located and given a warning for reckless driving.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY

UNIVERSITY CENTER DANCE STUDIO: An 18-year-old student was evaluated by EMS at 10:23 a.m. after a call for what was thought to be cardiac arrest on Jan. 21. When EMS arrived, it was found that she had experienced a seizure as well as a hip injury due to the fall and she was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for further treatment.
