Golf team hosts tournament

The Valdosta State University golf team will host The First Federal Southeastern Collegiate in their only home tournament of the year this weekend at Kinderlou Forest.
Although the squad has been on many road trips throughout the season, some as far as Jamul, Calif., they have not finished in first place since the season opening tournament in the Flagler Invitational.
Head coach Jared Purvis believes that with the support of the fans as well as the home course advantage this weekend could play out to be a great one for the Blazers.
“We are absolutely looking forward to it,” Purvis said. “There’s nothing like playing at home. The people here in town are supporters and it’s great that they have a chance to come out and watch.”
The Blazers look to benefit from their familiarilty with the greens and the layout of Kinderlou. Although Kinderlou has proven to be a much easier course compared those on the west coast Purvis wants to make sure that the team does not slow up. He stresses this even more with NCAA Regionals coming up.
“I just want them to give it their all no matter what,” Purvis said. “As long as their giving 110 percent, I believe we can build some momentum for regionals.”
The team will be in action again on march 22 when they go to Eatonton, Ga. for the Bobcat Invitational.
