SGA heard reports from the executive board and several committees during their meeting on Monday, April 12.
Reports were made on the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs interviews, the SGA Election Platform Presentation, and the possibility of a Dead Day Breakfast.
After taking roll, Comptroller Morgan Alexander reported on the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs interviews, which are scheduled for 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. on April 19 and 21 and are open to students.
The first candidate, Dr. V.K. Unni, who will be interviewed on April 19, is the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bryant University. The second candidate, Dr. David M. Glassman, whose interview is scheduled for April 21, is the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Indiana.
Next, the Elections Committee reminded the senate of the Platform Presentations that will be held April 14 at 7 p.m. in Powell Hall.
The University Coordination Committee reported that, due to financial issues, the end-of-year banquet might need to be cancelled. However, Senator Micheal Holloman, the head of the committee, stated that to give back to the students, his committee might instead plan a Dead Day Breakfast.
Next, President Kelli Cody made a correction of what was stated in last week’s meeting concerning Odum Library hours of operation. Contrary to what was reported, the library has not recently cut any hours. The Internet Café is open 24 hours from Sunday at noon to Friday at 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hours for other parts of the library can be found on the Odum Library website.
The Community Service committee announced the Relay for Life event being held on April 23 from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next morning.
The University Conservation Committee reported plans to team with VSU police to put together Summer Safety pamphlets.
The Technology Committee apologized for the delay on using clickers to vote and suggested the senate rethink buying their own clickers.
SGA meetings are held every Monday at 8 p.m. in Meeting Room 1 of the Student Union and are open to all students.
