Tennis ready for NCAAs

The Valdosta State men’s and women’s tennis teams have clinched the No. 1 and No. 3 seedings respectively in the South region of the NCAA Tournament.
The men snagged the No. 1 seed after an outstanding regular season that posted a 17-1 record, a Gulf South Conference title, and a victory over No. 1 ranked Armstrong-Atlantic. The lone loss of the year came way back in February to Barry University, who is ironically the No. 2 seed in the South region. The Blazers team boast
Because of the Gulf South Conference title, the Blazers earned a home match in the first regional round, which will take place at the tennis complex on Baytree Rd.
The women finished the season with a 12-4 record and like the men, a fourth consecutive conference championship. However, in the South region they received the No. 3 seed, behind Barry and Lynn University. Although they did not receive the No. 1 seed regionals, they were still the highest team to come out of the Gulf South. Other conference teams to place in the NCAA Tournament were West Florida, Delta State, and Arkansas Tech.
The men will be led by , Philip Pakebusch while the ladies will be led by Natali Gumbrecht, both of whom were named Gulf South Conference Players of the Year.
Raphaelle Durante and Tina Trautman were also named All-GSC first squad while Hollie Bees represented VSU on the All-GSC second team for her first such honor.
