Students will soon be able to receive a flu vaccine from the Student Health Center for $10.
The vaccine will be available starting on Sept. 29 from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. and by appointment.
The flu vaccine will also be available to VSU faculty and staff after Oct. 22 by appointment for $20. The SHC is also organizing a mobile cart to vaccinate busy students in between classes.
“Although the flu can occur at any time during the year, it tends to be heavier from October to April,” said Edwin Hiatt, M.D., Director of the SHC.
Each year, over 200,000 people are hospitalized for flu-like symptoms and up to 48,000 people die from the virus, according to www.flu.gov.
“Even healthy people can get the flu,” Velma Bennett, a county nurse manager for the South Health District, said. “All VSU students should protect themselves this season.”
