Softball versus football on Friday

VSU softball team has earned a strong reputation all season long as the fourth best team in the nation.

This Friday, Head Coach Thomas Macera will put his team against probably their toughest competitors they have ever played.

Yes, the Blazer softball team takes on our very own Blazer football team at 6 p.m. at the Softball Complex.

This event will be the softball players’ last home game of the regular season.

It will also be free admission, so all Blazer fans can enjoy the game and donate willingly.

The game will be played with the usual seven innings, and the football team will get some help behind the plate from All-American Alyssa Shirey.

Shirey was a valuable player for VSU, and is now coaching her first season as an assistant coach.

The football team will include safety Harrison Dreiling, linebackers Joel Cain and Japree Miles, and punter Jack Fulford.

Plenty of students around campus are pumped up for the opportunity to cheer on both teams, regardless of who wins.

“I never went to any other games, but this one seems like it’s going to be pretty fun,” Austin Holmes, freshman business major, said.

This is the first time this Blazer Showdown has ever been played, but it seems like it could soon become a yearly tradition.

“I’ve never been to a college co-ed game like that before; it should be very interesting,” John Weseloh, junior communications major, said.

Blazer fans who cannot attend Friday’s exciting matchup will be able to listen to a live broadcasting on Talk 92.1.
