SGA schedules re-election for senate seats

During its second meeting of the year, SGA discussed the requested senate reelections, justice board nominees and freshman elections.

Reelections for At-Large senate seat 20 will be held on Sep. 8th as requested by members of the NAACP.

Last year’s senate elections ended in a tie among four VSU students, each student receiving 30 votes.

Zackary Stanaland was then appointed as a senator, even though he received the same numbers of votes as the other candidates; Kristen Pusey, Yannick Gill and Quillian Lester.

This error was caught by Ryan Brown, the political action committee chairman of VSU’s branch of NAACP.

Brown contacted the SGA vice-president about the mistake.

“I wanted to make sure the SGA knew that there was a mistake and that everyone was treated fairly,” Brown said. “It was fairly easy to get the reelections done.”

Kristen Pusey has declined to be a part of the re-vote.

During the meeting, the senate also voted on new justice board members. Each justice board nominee had to apply online and then go through an interview process.

“I would like to see a change in the student conduct,” Will Jimerson, a newly elected member of SGA, said when asked why he wanted to join the judicial board.

Tullis Beasley, another new member of the justice board, said he wanted to join in order to “better serve the student body.”

SGA meeting are open to all students and are held Monday nights at the University Center.
