SGA met this Monday at 8 p.m. in its new meeting spot in Powell Hall where they voted on new senators, elected a sergeant of arms and discussed upcoming events on campus.
After Chief Justice Katie Wagnon swore in all senators, visitors and candidates were asked to step outside for speeches and voting.
Yannick Gill, Candace Brown and Jamaica Hill were the three of the candidates who were to speak in front of the senate for the up large senate seats.
“I told them about me being in ROTC and how that has made me a leader,” Brown said.
After the speeches, the visitors and candidates were allowed to return, and the newly elected senators were announced.
Brown and Gill were voted into the senate, and Justice Purser was elected for Sergeant of Arms.
The senate then took additional nominations. Four senators stood up, and each one nominated one person. Hill, who was up for a senate seat, was nominated as well as Paul Rosemond.
The senate then moved on to miscellaneous business, including the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law fraternity meeting Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Zeta Tau Alpha’s Big Man on campus event Tuesday at 7 p.m.
SGA meetings are held every Monday at 8 p.m. in Powell Hall and are open to students.
