Students have plenty of events to look forward to leading up to this year’s Homecoming game Oct. 15, including a drive in movie on the front lawn, Student Night at Wild Adventures theme park, and a fashion show hosted by Alpha Phi Omega.
Along with Saturday’s game against West Alabama, other special events will also be held to celebrate homecoming. Alpha Phi Alpha will host a step show consisting of eight teams.
“The teams will be judged on creativity, precision, theme, and overall performance,” said Johnathan Roberts Advertisement co- chair of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. “Penalties include stepping over the allotted time or any vulgar actions.”
A $1,500 prize will be given to the best fraternity and sorority. Tickets are $10. Out of the ticket sales, a $500 donation will be given to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Georgia Inc.
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive starting Oct. 10, located at 2517 Bemiss Road for students. The first 60 people to donate blood will receive a free ticket to the step show.
The fraternity Alpha Phi Omega will host a fashion show Wednesday in the Student Union ballrooms A & B.
The fashion show will include six scenes: Prints/Tribal theme, Freaky Flaunt, KreAtive MotiVation, a dress scene, a t-shirt scene and Pink Pride.
“The prints/tribal scene was chosen because different prints and natural looks seem to be very popular in this day and time, especially in the fashion and entertainment industry,” said
Jakarrea Mustaf, fraternity member of APO and coordinator of the show.
The Freaky Flaunt scene is Halloween themed and created to inspire costume ideas. The KreAtive MotiVation scene is a lingerie/sensual scene.
“We wanted to show how to be creative in a sensual, yet classy way,” Mustaf said.
According to Mustaf, the dress scene was chosen in lieu of Homecoming and was created as inspiration for dress ideas and motivation to invest in formal attire for special occasions. The t-shirt scene is to show each model’s individuality and Pink Pride was chosen in support of breast cancer awareness.
The clothes and accessories chosen from the show came from Harmony Rutland in Tallahassee, Lezlie’s Boutique in Valdosta Mall and KreAtive Entertainment.
