‘Expendables’ disappoints despite A-list cast

With an all -star cast made up of the finest action stars of the ‘80s; you would think this movie could be reminiscent of those classics; unfortunately it’s not. Where should I begin?

The Expendables 2 is a giant mess of a movie, but let me start with the bit of good this movie actually offers. Jason Statham, known for the Transporter series, has a few cool fights that are unfortunately over way to fast.

Chuck Norris comes onto the scene in a blaze of gunfire worthy of his longstanding popularity thanks to the Internet. Unfortunately, that is all I can say was actually good.

You would think that a movie with a budget estimated at around one hundred million dollars would be amazing. There are so many big actors that most of them get overlooked and don’t get to do much in the movie. For example, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s lack of screen makes his character a boring villain.

There is no reason to care for any of the other characters in this movie, and the one character that is the least bit interesting is dead before he has a chance to shine.  The script sucks; which is expected in an action movie; but this one takes the cake. A good part of the movie is spent, reciting lines from previous action movies the cast had been in; which is pathetic.

Let’s move on to the acting, which is nonexistent and uninspiring.  It looks like they filmed this movie to be PG-13 and then added all the blood into the movie on a computer during postproduction in order to get an R rating. All the CGI is bad and looks way too fake for the movie budget.

Interestingly, the movie sums up my feelings with one of the last lines in it.  Stallone looks at an old airplane that he is given and says, “That thing belongs in a museum.” Arnold Schwarzenegger replies, “We all do.”

Basically, this movie is not worth your time or money and I recommend waiting to see it at the dollar movie theater.
