CMVSU hosts “EyeCandy” auction

The Collegiate Men of VSU hosted their first “EyeCandy” auction in Bailey Science Center, Oct. 24.

The EyeCandy auction was held to raise money for CMVSU’s semester event, Women Appreciation Dinner.

This auction was far from ordinary, where the bids were placed on women and men and the prize was a date including free entry into Glo Ultra Lounge.

The hosts, Sam Logan, senior mass media major, and member of CMVSU and Kyler Dessau, senior psychology major and 2012 Homecoming Queen, began the bidding with a $3 minimum.

CMVSU tweeted that the auction had “10 beautiful women of VSU and 10 guys of CMVSU” to bid on.

The auditorium was crammed with both women and men waiting to place their bids.

Kira Demund, sophomore mass media major, was the first contestant to take the stage raising a total of $7 for the men of CMVSU.

One-by-one the contestants raised amounts of $5-11.

Jerry Byrd, sophomore education major, made the stage and announced what makes him unique: “I grow my hair as a reminder of major goals I am trying to reach in life.”

Whether it was his hair or the quote, Byrd received back-to-back bids between multiple women raising a total of $25.

Not only did CMVSU raise money for their appreciation dinner but also gave 40 people dates.

“I would want to take my woman on a date to her favorite country,” Omotayo Ikuesan, senior education major, said.

The event raised $193, and CMVSU plans to donate $110 to a charity that has yet to be determined.
