Fans express ’50 shades of anger’

Written by: Anthony Pope

Hello, World—Anthony here bringing you everything that had us buzzing this past week in pop culture.

While everyone was recovering from the televised twerk session that was the VMAs, the entertainment industry attempted to return to a sense of normalcy.

Kicking things off this week, the cast for the highly anticipated film “Fifty Shades of Grey” was announced.

The film adaptation of E.L. James’ best-seller will star Dakota Johnson, daughter of ‘80s heartthrob Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, as Anastasia Steele. Charlie Hunnam from FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” will take on the role as Christian Grey.

Fans of the series weren’t too pleased with casting choices and took to various social media sites to voice their displeasure. Some even went as far as to form a petition to have both actors replaced by different ones. SMH.

I guess we’ll just have to wait until the film comes out in August 2014 to judge for ourselves.

Speaking of book adaptations, it was also announced that “True Blood” would sadly be meeting the true death when the seventh and final season airs next summer.

The sex-filled popular HBO drama starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard just ended its sixth season.

“True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Alan Ball (Creator, executive producer and writer) took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey.”

No more horny vampires filling our TVs? What on earth are we going to do on Sunday nights?

In get-your-life-together news, Lamar Odum, NBA player and husband to Khloe Kardashian, was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Friday.

The basketball player was arrested after cops spotted him driving slow and in a “serpentine” manner.  After failing three field sobriety tests, they placed Lam Lam in cuffs and hauled him off to jail. Odum posted bail and was released.

All this comes after weeks of speculation that Odum was battling a serious crack-cocaine addiction and that his marriage to Khloe was on the brink of divorce.

No word or comment from the Kardashian camp on any of this, but who wants to take bets that this will somehow wind up in an episode of “Keeping up with the Kardashians”?

Kris Jenner is somewhere scheming as we speak.

That’s it for Pop Addict this week, but be sure to check back next week to catch up with what’s going in the entertainment industry.
