Blazer Tennis Hopes to Stay Hot

by Stuart Price

VSU Tennis has dominated the courts so far this season and they hope their winning streak continues tomorrow.

Blazer Tennis has fared well in the last two matches, defeating both Rollins College and Florida Tech, both nationally ranked teams. The Lady Blazers tennis team is currently ranked #1 in the Gulf South Conference, while men’s tennis trails only the nation’s top-ranked team, West Florida, in the division standings.

The Blazers have done very well this season in doubles play. The Lady Blazers’ #1 and #2 doubles teams are currently 4-1. Jennifer Rink and Anke Poncelet represent the Blazers as the #1, and Joanna Lario and Bea Morales the #2. The Men’s Doubles #1 team, consisting of Gereon Heitmann and Ramon Weil, is 3-0 going into tomorrow’s match.

The Blazers have also matched up very well in singles matchups so far this season. Herbring and Heitmann are both 3-0. Morales leads the ladies for now with a 4-1 record. Poncelet and Rink follow closely at 3-2.

Barry comes to Valdosta undefeated so far this season but the Blazers hope to stay on fire with a win this weekend.

Come see the Blazers take on Barry College tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the VSU tennis courts and help them get another win!
