Susanna Peonia was named GSC’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for outstanding effort that totaled to a number of 15 blocks and an average of 1.07 blocks per set on the week. This only added to her consistent performance as she is currently leading the GSC in blocks with 77. She also added offense to the table with 36 kills to go along with a .301 hitting percentage during the week. With Peonia hitting a percentage of .357 on the season, it places her only behind North Alabama’s Jessica Austin in the conference.

Susanna is a Junior (major) from Castel Bolognese, Italy. She played at the State College of Florida, a small community college before transferring to VSU. “I was looking for a second home and a place where I knew that I was going to have fun, make new friendships, and finish my studies. I found VSU to be perfect when I went for my visit. I cannot wait to compete and finish my studies in the best possible way,” said Peonia.

“The award means a lot,” said Peonia, especially since she plays the middle position. Middle’s usually having more of an offensive focus than a defensive mindset so she said she was honored by the award. “We want to win conference and we’re really really fighting for it,” said Peonia. “We’re very good at fighting back. Even if we are down and we have to catch up, we’re good at fighting back.”
