‘Damn Yankees’ now playing

Valdosta State University Theatre and Dance Area presents “Damn, Yankees,” opened on Thursday night and can be seen at 7:30 p.m. in Sawyer Theatre, located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building.
 Damn, Yankees tells the story of baseball fan Joe Boyd (Jake Alley) as he sells his soul to a salesman named Applegate (Joel Moseley), who turns out to be the Devil, to get a chance to lead his favorite team, the Washington Senators,  in a pennant race against the New York Yankees.
  “The music is great.  Most people know the song ‘Heart,’” Jacque Wheeler, director, said. “Lots of folks are familiar with the song ‘Whatever Lola Wants.’  This one is for entertainment.”�
 She hopes the audience will have a good time with this production.
 “It’s really intense and the music is really big,” Shelby Nichols, who plays Joe Hardy, said.
 For Nichols’ entrance as Joe  Hardy, the talented baseball player Joe Boyd becomes after selling his soul, the music is very intense, which is why it is his favorite part of the show.  He believes the audience will enjoy the dancing, as well as the song “Whatever Lola Wants,” because it is the funniest song in the show.
 Show dates are Nov. 12-18, with all shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. except the Sunday matinee on Nov. 15, which begins at 3 p.m.  For more information, call the box office at (229) 333-5973. Students may stop by the box office, located next to Sawyer Theatre, to reserve tickets. Student tickets are free with a VSU 1card.
