See what Downtown has to offer

Valdosta State University faculty members are not the only ones thrilled to see the new and returning college students for the fall 2010 semester.
Downtown Valdosta’s young professionals and business owners are overjoyed, as well. Downtown welcomes you into their hometown and wants you to value it as much as they do. In fact, these business owners support VSU more than you know. They watch athletic events, participate in The Happening, advertise in The Spectator on a regular basis, and provide a great space for college students to hang out, eat, shop, and live.
Downtown is important to the greater city of Valdosta for several reasons. When you travel southbound on Patterson you see the architectural and historic treasures of our community. The antebellum homes, the beautiful trees, and the historic buildings provide a sense of place unique only to Downtown. Downtown is full of buildings dating back over 100 years!
You may have seen courthouses and historic buildings in other downtowns, but THESE BUILDINGS are treasures to YOUR college town. Since downtown offers a mix of funky, modern, and eclectic shops, restaurants, and living spaces it is the only historic yet FUN destination in our community! Become acquainted with the businesses and make downtown part of your college experience.
Downtown is a place where friends and neighbors can cross paths by being drawn to the same area of interest. It has boutiques, cafes, living space, and offices. It is thriving with movement and fun! Downtown shows opportunity and character, which is inviting and will grow with your support.
Support is not only needed by the locals, but by you, the college students, as well. Why should you step out of your boundaries and explore downtown? It is close-by, accessible, and unique! College is the time to get more cultured. That means doing something you cannot accomplish by reading a textbook. You are in college to learn, graduate, and then become successful in the area you chose. Taking a trip downtown is where you can meet young professionals and entrepreneurs, some of which have graduated from VSU! Take this opportunity to network and grow professionally.
You should set two goals this semester. The first should be taking a trip downtown to step off the college campus and see what downtown has to offer. The second goal should be to come downtown for a specific reason. There are four ladies’ boutiques offering the most current and up to date fashion trends. Also there are three shops with current fashions for the men. One of eleven downtown restaurants, Jessie’s Eats and Treats, has a very extensive and affordable menu. Almost all of the restaurants have food specials and entertainment! You really cannot go wrong by fulfilling these two goals! The prices around downtown vary and are comparable to other restaurants and shops in Valdosta. As you become more acquainted with Downtown, one thing is for sure, you are supporting the locals who are welcoming you into their hometown and they DO appreciate it. You are helping to fuel the economy for future VSU students. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Downtown, while having fun and making memories you will cherish forever. Remember, downtown has Fun, Flair, and Flavors! Come and experience it for yourself!
